Research topic: The research in our laboratory is focused on the investigation of glial cell and to clarify their role in neurological diseases. We suggest that targeting glia activation in different pathological scenarios may allow us to define common pathways to further understand the role of glia in neuroprotection . We are using three models: 1) Neurodegenerative disease – Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease 2) Stress condition –stroke. 3) Autoimmune disease – Multiple sclerosis.
Research methods: Cellular biochemistry; confocal microscopy; molecular biology; histology, immunological asses, cell culture; disease models in mice
Main projects in the lab include:
- Targeting the role of microglia activation in Alzheimer’s Disease.
- Understanding pathological changes in astrocytes–endothelial cells that link to cerebrovascular diseases
- Targeting the neuroprotection role of astrocyte following Stroke
- Understanding mechanisms of neuroinflammation in multiple sclerosis
