Dr. Michaeli Lior

Dr. Lior Michaeli is a Senior Lecturer / Assistant Professor, School of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Expertise: Nanophotonics, Optomechanics, Metasurfaces & Optical Wavefront Manipulation

Biography & Research Overview

Dr. Lior Michaeli is a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the School of Electrical Engineering at Tel Aviv University. He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Physics from Tel Aviv University, where his doctoral research focused on nonlinear optics and collective effects in two-dimensional nanoparticle arrays (metasurfaces). Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Michaeli conducted advanced postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) alongside leading global teams in nanophotonics and optomechanics.

Dr. Michaeli’s pioneering research bridges nanophotonics, optomechanics, and macroscopic optical control. His work explores the mechanical manipulation of millimeter-to-meter scale objects using light-induced forces (radiation pressure)—a foundational technology contributing to the ambitious global Breakthrough Starshot Initiative aimed at launching laser-driven lightsails for deep space exploration.

His lab develops cutting-edge solutions spanning high-Q metasurfaces, all-optical beam
