Dr. Darshan Ran
Dr. Ran Darshan is an assistant professor at Tel Aviv University, affiliated with the Department of Neuroscience and Brain Disorders at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, the Sagol School of Neuroscience, and the School of Physics and Astronomy. He obtained his PhD in theoretical and computational neuroscience from the Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences (ELSC) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the Janelia Research Campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), USA.
Dr. Darshan’s research focuses on theoretical and computational neuroscience, aiming to understand how cognitive functions such as learning, memory, and decision‑making emerge from collective neural dynamics. His lab develops mathematically grounded models and analytical tools, drawing on statistical mechanics, dynamical systems, machine learning, and control theory, and works closely with experimental groups to link theory with neural data. A central theme in his work is how population activity in neural circuits evolves during learning and how disruptions in these dynamics may contribute to neurological and psychiatric disorders.
