Prof. Tal Assaf
Prof. Assaf Tal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tel Aviv University. He completed his PhD in Chemical Physics and MSc in Physics at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he focused on fast magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy acquisition methods and quantum information theory, and postdoctoral research in radiology and neuroimaging at New York University School of Medicine.
Prof. Tal’s current research interests center on magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and imaging (MRI) as quantitative tools for studying brain chemistry and neuroplasticity. He leads the MR Spectroscopy Lab for Neuroplasticity, which develops next-generation spectroscopic neuroimaging methods to probe how the brain remodels itself across multiple spatial and temporal scales. His research combines spin physics, advanced signal processing, and information theory to track neurotransmitter dynamics during learning and memory, and to develop quantitative MR biomarkers for neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders including multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and Alzheimer’s disease.
