Prof. Fixler Dror
Prof. Dror Fixler is a Professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Tel Aviv University. He completed his PhD in Physics at Bar‑Ilan University, where his thesis examined heterogeneous fluorescence emission in individual cells and its relationship to cellular physiological state, followed by postdoctoral research in the Optics Department at the University of Valencia, focusing on optical super‑resolution for biological microscopy. He has also served as a visiting researcher in the Physics Department at King’s College London and as a visiting professor at leading institutions in China, including South China Normal University and the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry.
Prof. Fixler’s current research interests center on nanophotonics, biomedical optics, and light–tissue interactions, with an emphasis on developing non‑invasive optical sensing and imaging methods for highly scattering media such as biological tissue. A significant portion of his work is dedicated to diffusion reflection, fluorescence lifetime and anisotropy‑based measurements, and phase‑retrieval algorithms. His research combines theoretical modeling with advanced electrooptical system design, enabling applications in medical diagnostics and structural assessment of tissues – including early cancer detection, cardiovascular and vascular pathology, and reproductive medicine – and has led to the formation of several companies that originated from technologies developed in his laboratory and industrial collaborations.
