Prof. Itzhaki Michal
Prof. Michal Itzhaki is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, at Tel Aviv University. She completed her nursing degree at Tel Aviv University and was the first registered nurse in Israel to complete a direct PhD track, which she obtained at Tel Aviv University. She completed her post-doctoral training at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bar Ilan University.
Prof. Itzhaki’s research focuses on the emotion management of patients and caregivers in complex, challenging, and demanding health and illness situations. Her work explores the gaps between experienced versus expected emotions in diverse stressful care situations, including emergencies and disasters, violence in the healthcare system, life-threatening situations, multicultural dilemmas, and mental, terminal, and chronic illnesses. A central component of her research examines emotion management and the strengthening of personal and team-group resilience of patients, their families, and healthcare staff. Her research forms the basis for developing intervention programs aimed at efficient emotional management and increasing the caregiver’s and patient’s sense of resilience and emotional support.
