Prof. Itzhaki Michal
Prof. Michal Itzhaki is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Nursing Sciences at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, at Tel Aviv University. She completed her nursing degree at Tel Aviv University and was the first registered nurse in Israel to complete a direct PhD track. She completed her postdoctoral training at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bar-Ilan University.
Prof. Itzhaki’s research focuses on the emotional management of patients and caregivers in complex, challenging, and demanding health and illness contexts. Her work explores the gaps between experienced versus expected emotions across a range of high-stress care situations, including emergencies and disasters, violence in the healthcare system, life-threatening situations, multicultural dilemmas, and mental, terminal, and chronic illnesses. A central component of her research examines resilience, particularly the strengthening of personal and team/group resilience among healthcare professionals. Her research forms the basis for developing intervention programs aimed at efficient emotional management, increasing the caregiver’s sense of resilience and emotional support, and fostering an understanding of growth processes emerging from crisis.
