Prof. Karnieli-Miller Orit
Prof. Orit Karnieli-Miller is the former head of the Department of Medical Education at the Gray Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Tel Aviv University, where she holds the Dr. Sol Amsterdam & Dr. David P. Schumann Chair in Medical Education. She received her PhD in Social Work from Haifa University with a specialty in communication in healthcare, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Regenstrief Institute at Indiana University School of Medicine, focusing on professionalism and humanism in healthcare.
Prof. Karnieli-Miller’s research focuses on medical culture and its impact on medical students’ identity formation. Her studies enhance students’ moral courage to speak up when faced with professionalism and patient safety breaches to promote humanistic, compassionate, and trustworthy medical care. She has developed innovative AI-based tools including BRAVE, an AI simulator for breaking bad news, for which she received the “MasterAI for Teaching and Learning Innovation” Award. She serves as Director of Communication Skills Training and holds various leadership positions in international medical education organizations.
