Bioinformatic Analysis
The Bioinformatics Unit at the Faculty of Life Sciences
The Bioinformatics Unit at the Faculty of Life-Science at Tel-Aviv University is part of the Israeli Center of Bioinformatics Infrastructure (COBI) and offer various activitities to the bio-medical research community of Tel Aviv University and outside TAU.
- Bioinformatics training
- Bioinformatics consultation
- Microarray experiments support
- Computational resources
- NDG
The Technology
The Bioinformatics Unit is located at the Faculty of Life-Science at Tel-Aviv University. The main goal of the unit is to consult Bio-Med community in various bioinformatics topics:
1. Genomics
- Design, perform and analyze RNA microarray experiments
- Design, perform and analyze next generation sequencing experiments
- Pathway and function annotation of large gene-lists
- Exome analysis
- Gene regulation analysis
- Primer design
2. Sequence and structure analysis of proteins
- Mutation design and analysis
- Protein 3D structure modeling
- Binding prediction between proteins / small molecules / nucleic acids
- Dynamics simulation of proteins
The need
Any bio-med topic can benefit from bioinformatics analysis observations. The analysis may provide clues for proper experimental design, and often opens novel view of the experiments. We have more than 10 years of experience in bioinformatics consultation to the Bio-Med community and companies, in a wide variety of bioinformatics topics.
Potential applications
1. Extended identification of gene expression in various cell lines and tissues, using high throughput technologies.
2. Exome analysis and identification of potential disease genes.
3. Prediction of mutations for mutagenesis.
4. Epitope identification for antibody development.
5. In-silico molecular dynamics simulations of proteins / small molecules.

The Bioinformatics unit also provides educational workshops on various Bioinformatics topics, including theoretical and\or practical bioinformatics issues (see website). Workshops are usually held at the Faculty of Life Science PC room, and are composed of lecture and “hands-on” session. Workshops may be given in other institutes upon request.
