Burton Materials Discovery Lab

Research Projects

Innovative Materials Discovery
Our cutting-edge computational hardware and efficient software enable us to identify and predict new materials before synthesis. This groundbreaking approach has led to the discovery of 11 novel semiconductor materials, with international patents acquired by Panasonic Corporation.

Machine Learning for Targeted Discovery
While we excel in materials discovery, our research now focuses on harnessing machine learning to guide our efforts strategically. This approach allows us to prioritize materials with the highest potential for transforming modern technologies. Our team actively develops and refines these ML methods to stay at the forefront of materials science innovation.

High-Throughput Property Screening
Leveraging big-data platforms and open-source coding, we conduct comprehensive screenings of known materials to identify optimal candidates for specific applications. Our current focus is on opto-electronic properties crucial for transistors and photovoltaic applications. We are continuously expanding our screening capabilities to cover a broader range of material properties and potential uses.

Key Achievements:
• 11 new semiconductor materials discovered
• International patents sold to Panasonic Corporation
• Ongoing development of ML-driven discovery methods
• Specialized in opto-electronic material properties
Our Impact: Our research accelerates the pace of materials discovery, reduces development costs, and opens new possibilities for technological advancements across various industries.
