Service Laboratory for Biomass Separation and Processing

Prof. Alexander Golberg’s laboratory is equipped with advanced facilities designed to support a wide range of biomass separation and processing needs. Our comprehensive suite of equipment and expertise enables us to offer high-quality services to academic researchers, industry partners, and governmental agencies involved in biomass conversion, waste management, and biofuel production.

Equipment and Capabilities
1. Size Reduction:
o Ball Mill, Grinders, Colloidal Mill: We provide precise size reduction services to prepare biomass for further processing. Our equipment ensures uniform particle size distribution essential for effective extraction and conversion processes.
2. Thermal Treatment and Extraction:
o Reactors (up to 200 liters): Our lab is equipped with large-scale reactors capable of handling significant biomass volumes for thermal treatment and extraction processes. This includes hydrothermal treatment, pyrolysis, and other thermal conversion techniques.
3. Chemical Extraction:
o Reactors (up to 1 m³): We offer chemical extraction services using state-of-the-art reactors, enabling the efficient extraction of valuable compounds from various biomass sources.
4. Non-Thermal Extraction:
o Pulsed Electric Fields (PEF): Both batch and continuous PEF systems are available for non-thermal extraction, facilitating the recovery of bioactive compounds and enhancing the efficiency of subsequent processing steps.
5. Separation Techniques:
o Micro and Ultrafiltration (Sunny Membranes unit, up to 100 liters per batch): Our laboratory offers advanced filtration services, including microfiltration and ultrafiltration, to separate and concentrate biomolecules.
o Filter Press Separation: Effective solid-liquid separation using filter press technology for various biomass processing applications.
o Batch and Continuous Centrifuges: High-speed centrifugation for solid-liquid separation, suitable for both batch and continuous operations.
6. Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Services:
o Design of Experiment and Data Analytics: Our team provides comprehensive support for experimental design and data analysis, utilizing descriptive statistics, optimization techniques, and machine learning algorithms.
o Environmental Impact and Techno-Economic Analysis: Leveraging SuperPro software from Intelligent, we conduct detailed environmental impact assessments and techno-economic analyses to evaluate the sustainability and economic feasibility of biomass processing projects.
7. Process Simulation:
o Our laboratory is equipped with advanced process simulation tools to model and optimize biomass conversion processes, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.
