Offered Services:

• Observations and Measurements Services of Low Frequency Electromagnetic Noise:
  Prof. Price has at present 4 operating field sites for monitoring low frequency electromagnetic radiation in the atmosphere.  These measurements are in the ultra low frequency (ULF: f<3Hz), the extremely low frequency (ELF: 3< f < 300 Hz), and the very low frequency (VLF: 300 < f < 50,000 Hz) ranges.  Most of the radiation in these frequencies is of natural origin (lightning, magnetospheric pulsations, meteors, etc.), but there are also man-made transmitters and noise in these frequency bands.  The measurements cover regions within thousands of kilometers of Israel.  We have contacts with RAFAEL and MAFAT who are interested in these data for understanding the background noise that interferes with radio communications.
• Research on Space Weather:
  Prof. Price has a group of researchers that focus on the interaction between solar storms and the Earth’s electromagnetic environment.  Such storms can have damaging impacts on satellites, communications, and even power outages.  Efforts to improve our understanding between the Space-Earth environment are under way.  Possible clients are MAFAT, Israel Aircraft Industries and satellite service providers.
• Lightning and thunderstorms:
  Prof. Price is a world leader in lightning research, and is part of a few global and regional networks that give real time data on lightning and thunderstorms.  This predicting information can be used for short term warnings (hours) of flash floods, intense thunderstorms, lightning risks to industry, aviation, and power companies.  Possible clients are Israel Electric Company, Civil aviation companies, Emergency management authorities, Israel Meteorological Service.
