The Biomedical Optical Microscopy, Nanoscopy and Interferometry Research Group
The Biomedical Optical Microscopy, Nanoscopy and Interferometry Research Group is a part of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Nano Center of Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.
Directed by Prof. Natan T. Shaked and located on three labs spaces, the group performs multidisciplinary research involving optical engineering, imaging and sensing in biological systems, artificial intelligence (AI), and biophysics. We aim at developing new experimental and analytical tools for label-free quantitative cell imaging while harnessing novel AI approaches
Research Subjects:
Technology Development
We develop new experimental and analytical tools for 3D biological cell imaging that uniquely combine label-free wave-front sensing and imaging approaches, providing deep data by quantitative morphological and contents cellular imaging, and artificial intelligence (AI) by novel approaches for deep learning.
Current specific subjects of interest include:
- Deep-learning platforms for cell classification
- Deep-learning platforms for cell virtual staining
- Rapid label-free wave-front imaging and sensing of biological cells
- Portable interferometric modules for clinical use
- 3D refractive-index live-cell tomography
- Interferometric nanoscopy
Clinical Applications
- Sperm selection for IVF
- Cancer cell analysis in liquid biopsies
